ChrisJB
I tried but I lost the battle. This by far was the hardest brake job i have ever encountered. Basically the caliper bridge bolts and 2 of the 4 screws that hold the rotors in place refused to come loose. The bolts must have been welded on because I went out and bought a air impact gun and even it wouldn't get these bolts loose and I shot about a gallon of penetrating lube on them as well. I hurt lol
PCRover
You have to use an impact driver to get the Rotor screws out, they are available at most tool stores, auto stores, and sears etc. Try a breaker bar on the caliper bolts. They should NEVER be that tight.
ChrisJB
I tried the breaker bar with no luck before I went to the store and bought the impact driver. I even stood on the bar and I am not a lite person and still cant budge them loose.
PCRover
Dumb question I know, don't be offended but you are turning it counterclockwise, right? I see people trying the wrong direction on bolts a lot actually. Many times I have used my floor jack handle on a breaker bar to pop things loose. Try that or a 6' pipe on the breaker bar if you can. ChrisJB
Yeah i thought maybe I was tightning them vs loosening them, I just remembered the old adage righty tighty lefty loosey. I was able to get all the bolts and screws off one brake so I made sure I was turning them the right way on the others.
PCRover
You need get serious now...Get a torch, heat usually does the trick...
ChrisJB
which is what most of the suggestions i found in google said and I think i am over me head when it comes to applying heat which is why i'll let someone else do it lol I dont want to break my vehicle because I was being cheap
PCRover
It is easy, get a propane torch and heat up the area around the threads of the bolt! Don't give up!
ChrisJB
how much heat?
PCRover
Enough to thermally exercise it so it will loosen it's bond. It is steel, so it won't get damaged by a torch, but not to much heat to melt anything rubber nearby.
ChrisJB
So tried it and I ended up stripping the bolt head. I may not have givin it enough heat, but now i got a stripped bolt to worry about lol
PCRover
Dang...That is one tough sucker. I don't remember enough about the caliper to suggest what to do next...
ChrisJB
and of course if I happen to have gotten just this one loose. I would still have 5 more to go plus 2 stubborn rotor screws. lol The 2 bolts that held the caliper to the caliper bridge came off easy but the others not so much. This would have been the first brake service for my vehicle so I have no idea why these bolts would be so tight from the factory
