Disco2Guy
Trip request form has been submitted! The Special Use Permit is filled out, I'm just waiting for the check to arrive from Jen and everything will be sent to the NPS. The date is set for September 12-15, 2013. NCLR flags will be ready in time for this trip, and I ask that everyone has one attached to their truck. Please have a way to attach the flag in time for the trip. Details on the flags will be posted in another thread. Is anyone interested in camping Thursday night on the trail vs. staying at the Avi Casino? We could get an idea of everyone's arrival time, meet at the Avi and head out to the trail Thursday evening. I'll be arriving Wednesday and will find the trailhead and a campsite a few miles in. Also, if you are a HAM, please post your call sign. I'll note it in the trip sheet for everyone. Disco2Guy
To bad this is the same weekend of the rubicon trip. Yeah, I was going to mention that in the Rubicon thread, but figured if that's the date that works for you so be it. This might be the first time we've had 2 big trips happening at the same time. AlysonH
Thursday night camping is fine. KJ6MIO Can I attach the flag to the ladder??
Disco2Guy
Can I attach the flag to the ladder?? You can. but the flag needs to be above the roof line. Any thin pole (like fiberglass) would work well.
Disco2Guy
Today I received an email with the approved Special Use Permit attached. A hard copy is being sent to me as well, so we are all good to go! I will post the coordinates of our planned campsites for each night later today/tonight. astateofmike
Brenton, If we are camping on trail night one (and then ahead of schedule a little) and we could camp just AFTER Soda Lake on Sat night that might be cool to cross the playa in the late day. Disco2Guy
That would be pretty cool. I can ask Keanan (VP of SCLR) how manageable that would be. He's done the Road a few times pretty recently and would have a good idea of travel times.
HMBRover
We would like to camp Thursday night rather than stay at the casino. Unsure of arrival time. Let us know the departure time from Avi Casino for the first night's camp and we'll be there. I have a smaller orange NCLR flag (12.x9). Is that adequate or do I need the new larger one? Ham Radio: K0DTJ = will have 7 MHz SSB (long range) and 144/440 MHz FM plus other assorted goodies. I assume primary trail and talk-in frequency is 146.46 MHz. ROVRMAN2
I still havent decided on driving from Las Vegas to Avi Casino OR from BA to Avi Casino. Is the meeting place still the Avi Casino Fri AM?Since I can't find a co-driver, how about a relief driver for a few hrs on the Interstate to the jump off point? AA Journey
I a down for camping over night vs staying at the Casino but I am flexible. I will go with whatever most decide to do. It will be nice to take a shower before heading on the trail but I am can always get a russian shower. :-)
Disco2Guy
=ROVRMAN2;27293Is the meeting place still the Avi Casino Fri AM? So far the consensus is to camp on the trail Thursday night. If anyone has a rough idea of their eta on Thursday, we can start to arrange a meeting time at the Avi. I can be at the Avi anytime on Thursday.
