Rally and Land Rovers Go Together: Volunteers Needed the Mendocino Rally Aug 6

Recommended Posts

Just caught wind of this late this year (still thanks to Enrique aka Discochef for posting), and didn't catch up with Jim Robinson, the event organizer, till this wknd.

Anyways, the Mendocino Red Tail Rally is still looking for volunteers: http://mendocinorally.com/index.html

In chatting with Jim, they could use our Land Rover Club members in particular for "blockage positions" to track the rally cars and ensure no non-rally people get on the course. Position are either be ham or non-ham blockage.

Meaning, if you have a ham radio, you could be positioned in a remote location on the trail; sounds good to me; sign me up (lol).

If you don't have a ham, we can partner you or co-pilot someone w/ham radio. Do it - time to be a Ham (Lol - I mean use your ham for goodness sake finally for what's intended, and not just @ parking lots j/k). Or get your lic now (smile like me). Or position you where ham radio is not req.

If you want to make a wknd out of it, lodging is avail @ discounted price at Hampton Inn, or over flow @ Comfort in Ukiah: http://mendocinorally.com/page8.html - rates ranging from $99 to $129 per night.

You are gonna need lodging, because there is a welcome party for both partipants, and volunteer w/free t-shirt and wine on Aug 5 Friday night. Did I mention free wine @ the Parducci cellars: http://www.parducci.com/!

Agenda

Aug 5 Friday Night

- 6:30-8pm: Welcome Party Parducci Wine Cellars

Aug 6 Sat Morning

- 7:30-9am: Volunteer Check-in/last min reqistration Comfort Inn, Ukiah

- 9-9:45am: Mandatory volunteer meeting Comfort Inn, Ukiah

-12:20 PM First car begins Stage 1 South Cow Mountain (we need to be all in our blockage positions)

.....race continues

- 8:30 PM Eta First car arrives at finish

- Proceeded with the Award party @ the Mendocino Mendocino Brewing Ale House (volunteers get two free drink coupons)

Sounds like fun! Anyone up for this Aug 5/6 or just Aug 6 volunteer? Let me know. If I get my RTT, I might just crash sleep in the parking lot after ea welcome, and award party (lol).

Jim said that he wants to work with us, and make our Land Rover Club part of the 2012 Mendocino Red Tail Rally. This is great - we can plan early on. And in Jim's words "Land Rovers and Rallies seem to go together" and my response was True that and Cheers! We want our club to be the official support vehicles for this Rally!

For now, let's check it out and show our support; bit late; who is up to do this on Aug 6? We have the MORG that day but can be alt instead; we need Land Rovers!

I am able to go since we've pushed up the trip to the Rubicon!

Post here!

If you go, please make sure to wear your NCLR shirts or hoodies. and NCLR stickers and supplies of club brochures.

Perfect networking opp as I can imagine before the end of the course, hoping to meet/talk to Parducci Wine Cellears or Ale house owners (smile).

Josh, would be great if you can go. Let's see who else is going? We can talk and coordinate the trip. Come on two amigos only. We need alteast 3 amigos like the lights on DIIs. Lol.

Ron, a bit too little notice for me to plan to participate of this thing, as much as it sounds like a fun time. However, I think looking into the near future, making our club vehicles the official support vehicles for future events sounds like a great joint venture to me. With more time for next year, I'd love to volunteer.

Hey Luis; good to hear from you, and thanks for the forward thinking message. Agree, will be good for our club.

Since it's short notice, I will check it out and report back; prepare for next year's 2012 event.

And Josh, sent you a PM. C yah!
