NCLR BBQ Provided by Specialized Parts Planet on Sat Aug 14th from 9-3pm

Recommended Posts

Ok started this gauging interest thread awhile back: http://nclrclub.org/forum/showthread.php?996-Members-Gauging-Interest-Specialized-Parts-Planet

Looks like good interest and so far we have the following people:

- Luis

- Colin

- Dan

- Enrique

- Me

- Mike

- Antonio

- Esteban

- Steven

- Brenton

- Nigel

- Anyone else?

Bit of background, Carl Cooney formerly from Land Rover parts department in the Bay Area now works for Specialized Parts Planet: http://www.specializedpartsplanet.com/ reached out to us. New management, and now Carl runs Specialized Parts Planet; couple things in mind (Mike started talking to Carl and here's what Carol would like to offer us):

1) Carl wants to be an NCLR member; he also wants to send us (perhaps post pictures in our forum) pictures of newly received Land Rover truck in their parts lot whether an older Ranger Rover, Discovery I, Discovery II or perhaps LR3 so we can have first stab at these parts.

2) Carl also wants to donate to our annual event.

3) And (reason for this thread) Carl agreed to throw us a BBQ and Parts Pick-up Day on Aug 14th. He can offer 1/2 price for interior parts (except for 2003+ MKIIIs). You can pre-order parts so they will be waiting for you. For example, I am getting a good deal on spare RRC rear drive shaft for my trip to the Dusy Irshim..

Prior to the trip or after the BBQ, we can hit Prairie City SVRA (smaller version of Holister Obstacle Course) as an option.

Mike ordered from them and experience has been good.

Anyways, write this on your calendar: Saturday Aug 14 from 9:00-3pm NCLR BBQ @ Specialized Parts Planet in Rancho Cordova.

For your GPS, address is 11301 Dismantle Court, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742. Tel. 916-638-7575. He will be there Saturday waiting for us to come-in as early as 9am.

Carl will be firing up the BBQ grill and be ready to serve hot dogs/burgers between 11-noon (snooze you loose).

There is an optional raffle ticket for $1 (money goes to a good cause) and prizes include rear ladder for your disco among others - see attached flyer.

Hope to see a good turn out. Since some of us are coming a long way, might be best to ask if people want to do the optional run @ Prairie City SVRA in the afternoon (so you don't have to get up as early), or be an early bird, hit the SVRA before the BBQ and get your flexing and buiild up an appetie for the BBQ. let me know on this thread.

Can I get a show of hands (or post - can't see your hand - lol) if you can make it this BBQ event, and if you'd be intersted in hitting Prairie City SVRA in the a.m. or p.m. or open to either?

Hope to see you guys/gals there! Post up!

Cheers!

I'm out. I have a Seadog gig that day, and it's one I can't miss.

Also: it might be a bit tough for people who are also planning to go on Chuck's Gold Lake trip, as it takes place at the same time.

I'm in too... afternoon wheeling is better for me as long as I get my Disco back together in time!

Good to hear you can make it Nigel. I also have an extra Trasharoo bag if you have picked up one form Tread Lightly. Let me know and I can bring it to this BBQ. C yah!

I plan on being there and would prefer afternoon wheeling.

To request parts, should we call him directly?

Sounds good Enrique; I will bring the bottle of Oroju to share that David would have like for us to enjoy! C yah.

Sorry to hear Dan.

For those going to Gold Lake, not sure if Rancho Cordova is along the way, do stop by for the BBQ Sat, do your camping @ Gold Lake and wheeling Sunday if it works out.

Thanks Ron... unfortunately I rushed and picked one up from Tread Lightly. I guess that's OK though since it supports the cause.

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like we have the following people coming this Sat Aug 14 BBQ @ Parts Planet:

1) Colin

2) Enrique

3) Me

4) Mike

5) Antonio

6) Esteban

7) Steven

8) Brenton

9) Nigel

10) New member: ProtechRRC

11) Guest: lrsafari

Anyone else?

Takes 1 1/2 hours from the City of Hercules (cental location for planned caravan) to Parts Planet @ Rancho Cordova. For the caravan, what do you guys/gals think of meeting at this gas station in Hercules: 828 Willow Ave for your GPS at 8:00am. Will leave no later than 8:15.

There is a gas station as mentiond if anyone needs to fill-up, Starbucks if anyone wants coffee, and easy access in/out of the Hwy 80; also easy access for folks coming from Martinez, or Livermore (Enrique).

Location for the BBQ is @ Parts Planet Rancho Cordova address: 11301 Dismantle Court, Rancho Cordova, CA for your GPS.

If we get there by 9:45-10am, will have time to pick-up parts or talk LR/parts; and then Carl is going to fire up the grill @ 11am, lunch, Rover Talk/Parts, and maybe head out to Praire City 4x4 around 2pm

(Thanks to Nigel) he called and confirmed that the Prairie City obstacle course will be open, but the trail is under repair: http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1221.

I'd still be interested in hitting the obstacle course (even though the trail is closed). Location: 13300 White Rock Road, Rancho Cordova CA 95742 for your GPS. 10 mins away.

Or if anyone is feeling adventurious, we can recce Shirtail Canyon (in Colfax; about 1 hr away from Rancho Cordova).

It's an easy graded forest road/scenic; you can see history Iowa Hill and Colfax-Foresthill Suspension Bridge: http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=XFT003-019; Need to allow 2 hrs to complete the trail. If anyone is interested, we should leave right after the BBQ (1pm) so we allow for drive-up (1hr), complete trail (2hr) and drive back home (3 hr) before it gets dark.

Lots of pricing; seems like if ea buys a raffle, you're chance of winning is high. If we caravan and get there by 10am, will have time to chat, pick-up parts, BBQ @ 11am and then the raffle @ 12noon. Cool! Besides Nigel and Colin, who else wants to meet in Hercules between 8-8:15am Sat.
