2022 MORG - Xmas trees and potential snow run

Recommended Posts

Okay, so time for our annual Xmas Tree run/Snow run! We're planning to head up this Saturday, November 26th, and cut down xmas trees ideally we will have some snow, so keep your fingers crossed!

We are heading to China wall and here's a Google link for reference.

You will need a tree permit for Tahoe national forest and they are $10, not yet available, usually go on sale beginning of November. Check back here and I'll let you know when I see them.

Have a read through here.

For the details:

Meeting from 10:30 - 11am in Rocklin at the Starbucks

We'll leave at around 11am and plan to arrive around noon to China Wall.

From there we'll park and have lunch, explore around and cut down a tree.

For those wanting to explore, the road converts to snow park just past the parking lot and eventually a dirt road too, so we'll head out and check out some the area depending on time folks want to spend.

For those wanting to camp, there are sites in the area and weather is fairly warm.  You can also disperse camp as long as there are no posted signs stating otherwise in the US Forest Land.

Let me know if you have any questions.

So today is Nov 9 and in other terms Xmas tree permits are for sale...China wall is in the American River ranger station, but if they sell out I think having something is better than nothing.

They do go quick...so feel free to get one soon!

The China Wall area was heavily impacted by the Mosquito fire and much of it is closed to cutting this year:

Also, given the relatively low elevation the trees weren't great last year. Thoughts on an alternative location?

Wow, I hadn't seen that notice before!! Well then, I'll need to see about other potential locations.

So we can go up higher elevation to near Cisco Grove and or up by Truckee,  for a day Trip it may make more sense to do the Cisco Grove area.

Let me know what people are thinking...

So let me know if you are planning to come Saturday,  I'm leaning towards the Truckee area as only interest currently is from Tyler and Co.

So meeting in the middle and lot's of places to snow shoe as well as we may try to do that as well with the kids.

    Thanks,

Okay, so plan for those making it...meet up at 1030 ish at the Starbucks off Sierra College drive from I80.

We'll plan to leave around 11 and head for Truckee and meet up at the Savemart next to McDonalds off of 89 South around 1230-1PM.

The tree area is just south near Granite Flat camp ground.  We'll look for a tree and check out the Truckee river too.

After that we can see what folks are up for...lunch likely and maybe some snowshoeing/sledding.

Please message me or comment here if you are going.

So far I know of Tyler and Gabe who are coming.

We have a link to share the pictures from the trip.

This turned out to be best spot yet, for many reasons...highly likely to always have snow this time of year and some great fire roads to explore in the snow.

Bathroom facilities on site, less than a mile from the S89 exit.

So next year I'll have folks meet up at Donner Creek Brewing for a beer/lunch.  Then we'll depart from there around 1pm.

Will make it easy to accommodate groups any direction at various times.

If you weren't able to make this one work but are still interested, definitely worth the trip and I believe still tree permits available.
